Wanjiru Njendu

Wanjiru Njendu is an award-winning Kenyan-American director based in Los Angeles. Her creative imagination earned her the nickname ‘Magic’ at a young age. Her African and American upbringing influences her approach as a writer and director for film and television enabling her to have a versatile voice in both African stories and Western stories. This versatility led to her being chosen as a fellow in the Producer’s Guild of America Diversity workshop. Wanjiru’s film credits include several award-winning short films which have played in over 100 film festivals. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

Her short film Boxed has been accepted into over 150 film festivals. Boxed had qualified and was submitted FYC for the 2020 Academy Awards for Best Short Film- Live Action. Boxed won Best Short film at Hague Global Cinema Film Festival and as well as Best Diaspora short film at The 2020 African Movie Academy Awards. For 2021, Boxed was selected by the Académie des César for their 2021-2022 Nuits en Or program. In 2021 Boxed was also honored with the Abraham Lincoln Award for Best film on Liberty and Equality by the Chicago International Indie Film Festival that is organized by the American Film Society.

Wanjiru was honored by the Roxbury International Film Festival with the 2021 Rox Vision Award. The Rox Vision Award is “Given out to the filmmaker who has gone beyond the traditional narrative to create and tell stories that engage, educate, inspire, and challenge the way we think about ourselves, our environment, and our narrative.”

Wanjiru’s short documentary film Safari ya Jamhuri: The Journey to freedom was used to provide evidence for a lawsuit against the British Government by the MAU MAU colonial war survivors from Kenya. Wanjiru was the shadowing director on the Netflix series “Daybreak” under Mark Tonderai. She recently directed a horror short film, Stray that was acquired by 20th Digital Studios with a feature option for Hulu, Freeform, FX and premiered at the Cannes Series Film Festival in Fall 2020.

She is currently filming a docs-series Built for Good on Green Buildings in Africa as well as developing several scripted film and television projects as well as a documentary about a children’s S.T.E.M (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) organization in Kenya.

Joseph Ruwa

Joseph Ruwa is a professional photographer and videographer based in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a graduate of Daystar University with a Bachelors of Arts in Electronic Media.

Joseph has been in the creative industry since 2013 and has worked in media, corporate world and with individuals. He loves telling stories through the lens from documentaries, portraits, weddings and events. And yes he is a fun guy too!

Wambui Kairo

Wambui Kairo is a Film/TV Producer with over 20 years of industry experience working on numerous local and foreign TV commercials, documentaries, Infomercials, music videos, TV shows and feature films including, The Constant Gardener, The White Maasai, Nowhere in Africa, In a Better World, MNET’s TV Series “Changes” (Season 3), MTV’s Shuga TV series among others.

In 2008, Wambui established her own production company, ONE BOY PRODUCTIONS, a Film & TV Production Service Company which offers production (fixer) services and logistics for both regional and overseas clients. The company also produces commissioned work for its clients.

Ashley Mbogo

Ashley Mwongeli Mbogo is an architect by profession and has a great passion for design both in the interior and exterior of buildings.
Ashley is in the early stages of her career in the architectural world. She has worked for firms such as: Gitutho Architects and Planners Limited(GAPL) ; where she took part in the design process of various projects such as the Green Innovation Centre in Embu.
Design Source; She was stationed at a large scale construction site for the Moi Educational Centre high school in South C where she was the firm’s trainee supervisor on site.
In addition to that, she is an instructor at @Little Einstein’s East Africa. This is a STEM based curriculum that educates young innovators in a bid to awaken their interest in science and technology.
Currently, she is a Research Associate at Built for Good Africa, an organization set to tell African stories through profiling green buildings. Built for Good features different sustainable developments and show that they can be both affordable and impactful to the environment

Andrew ‘Dru’ Mungai

Originally from Nairobi, Kenya, Dru splits his time between Nairobi and Los Angeles shooting commercials, television and features (narrative and documentary). Recent works include the break-out feature Kati Kati, Oh-Bama (tv series) and Soko Sonko. Dru spent the first 10 years of his career working as a news and documentary cameraman, producer and editor in more than 20 countries across Africa for Reuters TV, the BBC, Aljazeera , CNN, ABC News, Discovery Channel, and other international media outlets. Andrew “Dru” Mungai is a graduate of the American Film Institute (AFI).

Wanjiku Mwangi

Wanjiku Mwangi grew up in Nairobi, attend Shang Tao College and graduated in 3D Animation and Multimedia Studies. Wanjiku interned at Royal Media as a production assistant and a video editor. Later Wanjiku was able to work for BrandPlus TV for 3 years in the production department where she sharpened her skills in video editing, TV production and TV directing.
These experiences have propelled her career in filmmaking to new levels. One of her career goal is to direct a feature film(documentary) and later be able to merge law and media.
